Nominating New Featured Articles

Please use this Talk page to put forth and discuss nominations for Featured Articles to spend some time in the spotlight on the Main Page.

The qualities we are looking for in a Featured Article are many, and in some ways fairly subjective. But the top ones are: depth of information, clarity of prose, quality of style, and good formatting. Flawless spelling, grammar, and punctuation should, of course, be a given.

And yes, you may nominate your own character's article, if you think it's good enough!

Next (2nd) Featured Article?

No offence to Tziena - she does have a nicely-shaping-up article so far for her character - but I was only using her as the initial Featured Article due to hers being the first in place, and needing something to round out the first page for launch. Now we're starting to fill up with other articles, we should start looking at potential successors for Featured Article, perhaps once every week or two.

Though it's still early days, I have to say I quite like the Urban Guerrillas page so far. Very good, informative, and well-structured PA article. Kudos to Lija. Potential replacement here perhaps?

Ricaud 14:31, 25 February 2007 (PST)

Thanks Ricaud, I'm honored. Of course the Urban Guerrillas page has my vote! I'll keep my eye open for any other good articles that might work though.
Lija Fearless 18:08, 25 February 2007 (PST)
I'll have to slightly disagree with Ricaud here. I think Lija's character page here is a great example of what a Starsider Wiki page shoul look like, though I am trying to give him a run for his money. Alas, Tziena's page is not done yet. My vote goes to Lija Fearless.
Tziena 09:47, 2 March 2007 (PST)
Thank you, I appreciate the vote. Let me know what else you think should be added to the Urban Guerrillas page to make it a better article. I tried to keep it down to the bare bones facts without adding all of the stuff from our website, like rules and recruitment speech, etc.
Lija Fearless 20:40, 3 March 2007 (PST)
Oh I don't think there is anything wrong with the Urban Guerrilla's page. I just personally find Lija's character page more interesting. It may be the history element of Lija's page, it's more of a "how he came to be what he is" kinda thing. Which, again just my opinion and there is nothing wrong with way it is now, if the guild page was told in more of a narrative format it may be more interesting to me. *just one Zabrak's opinion*
Tziena 22:36, 3 March 2007 (PST)
Okay then, congrats to Lija for his character page, our new, second Featured Article! :-) Feel free to start giving nominations for the next one at any time.

Ricaud 09:19, 8 March 2007 (PST)

If Ramona adds some pictures to the Jailbirds article I think that should be the next one. great representation of a venue, which I do not think anyone has written about yet other than her.

Tziena 07:08, 12 March 2007 (PDT)
The Val-Tane Ricaud article has my vote. There are also several other articles that are shaping up really nicely, I look forward to seeing them all finished. *edit* I'm not sure why but the link to Val-Tane's page is red.*end edit*
Lija Fearless 11:15, 13 March 2007 (PDT)
I would vote for Val's article as well. (Fixed the link for you, Lija).
Myneuwaeroa Opias 11:29, 20 March 2007 (PDT)
I'm gonna give my vote to good ol' Becc he's got a nice one going there.
Fiska Arie 9:32, 22 March 2007 (EST)

Becc's article is just awesomely done... if we're going to have another featured article, I have to push his to the front of the line. :D

Wayii 5:34, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

(I'm not good at posting comments. :O) I also vote for Becc's page.

OneBaadDoshan 11:42, 11 May 2007 (EST)

Adahiana's Article is mind bogglingly awsome. I vote for it.

Jason Nezumi 4:14, 21 May 2007 (EST)

I had thought about doing Becc's or Jotyn Vaal's is good. I haven't read Adahiana's yet, but I will put that on my list. Since Ricaud left for LOTRO for a while, I'm falling a bit behind on the main page. Give me a bit to reread some of the articles and I'll edit the feature article. Thank you for the suggestions.

Tziena 10:48, 22 May 2007 (PDT)
I'll put in my vote for Jotyn Vaal's too. It's concise, well laid out, includes plenty of relevant information without turning into a novel. Adahiana's is, in my opinion, too long. Just looking at the byte count it's nearly double the next largest article on the wiki. It could probably use a few pictures too, to break up all that text, but that's me. Say, we're not limiting this feature article to the Characters category, are we?
Tisiphone 18:31, 22 May 2007 (PDT)
It can be in any category any article
Tziena 16:58, 25 May 2007 (PDT)
I vote for Becc next, it's a great wiki :) As is everyones
Fiska Arie 16:49, 22 June 2007 (EST)

So Jotyn Vaal has been the featured for a while now maybe it's time we move on? maybe each featured article should be up for a month then we change? Anyway my Vote goes to Becc, i love the use of images taken from different sources to help visualise his life.--Joce-Bana 05:38, 4 August 2007 (PDT)

I'll agree that Becc really does have a very nice article, but in the spirit of a former suggestion that a location be spotlighted next, I'd have to say that Red Sands really stands out as an excellent choice. The article is very well done and represents the place accurately without reading like a novel. -- Wayii
I'd love to see a location, starship, PA or something other than a person be featured next, but I'm not sure Red Sands is the right choice. At a glance, the image is wider than specifications, 'sulphur' is spelled wrong and there's nothing in the way of current information, just a backstory taken from the original website. Not a bad article, but not one I want to hold up as an example of how articles should be either. The reason why we can't change the featured article all that often is because there's a depressing dearth of articles which fit the bill (complete, written well, done according to the guidelines, etc.). -- Tisiphone 13:25, 12 August 2007 (PDT)
With all due respect, we may be waiting a very, very long time for a new featured article on that particular set of criteria. Despite my own obsessive care on my articles, I still continue to find errors in spelling and grammar (which drive me to distraction >.<). It's a bit easy to look at the wiki and become overcritical. Just saying, if you know what I mean. -- Wayii
OK look, the time has come to make this official. From now on the Featured article will only remain for one month. I will do a tally at the end of this weekend and will post the featured article at that time. -- Becc

Next Month (October)

Its that time of the month again, Time to vote on the Next Featured Article. Any article that is posted on the Starsider Wiki is fair game. Lets hear your opinions.

I'm somewhat proud of my own Inverse Proportion article, though I'm obviously biased. I'd love to see more high-quality starship and other non-character articles, and showcasing one might be a good way to raise awareness. -- Tisiphone 11:50, 3 October 2007 (PDT)
Personally, I believe Joron Darkdust would be a good article to see featured. Its a good read, not to mention the article is easy on the eyes and very interesting. --
Seconded, my vote goes out for Joron Darkdust as well. -- Dark-Dave 15:50, 28 October 2007 (WET)
I agree with Iendi and Dave on nominating Joron Darkdust. -- Wayii 29 October 2007
Alright, let's do it then, Joron Darkdust as featured article? I mean it has three (3) votes now and it's November already. -- Dark-Dave 8:33 PM, Friday, November 16, 2007 (WET)
Ahem, New Years is coming fast, ladies and gents. Can we set Joron Darkdust up as featured article? As Dave pointed out last month, he's got three votes... -- Wayii 12:47AM 17 December 2007
Uh, yeah, it's like March and September still stands. -- Dark-Dave 15:31, 9 March 2008

Next (4th) Featured Article

I'll make the call to start voting on the Next Featured Article. (The one supposedly to come after Joron's.)
Any article on Starsider Wiki is fair game. So let's hear your thoughts. -- Dark-Dave 9:00, 31 March 2008

I think Irys Eo'Nel seems like a good choice, very well written. Jason Nezumi 17:23, 5 April 2008 (PDT)

Im not wanting to sound biased but I think the newly reworked Mandalorian article should be featured article. Its better then the Wookieepedia one and its still in the works. Wayii is doing an excellent job.

Divictus Kyi Kell'yc 14:26, 10 April 2008 (EST)

Not sure if it fits the bill, but I recently put my article for Ieheeloonea Gaivee up, and put a fair bit of work into it. If others like it, it'd be fun to have up there. - Corvalis 29 April 2008

I second that, I vote for Ieheeloonea's article. It's entertaining and most important original - Jefka the Hutt 3:31, 03 May 2008
Hell, I'd like to see Jefka's up there. I love the big fat slug lol. And it's a great article too! -Corvalis Mierdrym 00:02 05 May 2008

New FA?

Has there been a new featured article in awhile? It seems long overdue. --Thacian

Rotation of the Featured Article

I'm hoping to rotate the featured article every 6-8 weeks.

Please feel free to make further recommendations here as I'll be mining this discussion for ideas before I go looking for something myself. -- Drekkin

For my own reference, some articles I'm looking to feature in future: Dose Ordo -- Drekkin

I'd rotate articles every 2 to 4 weeks - there are enough to pick from. Maybe even make it "article of the week". -- Ramona

Looks that way (plenty to choose from). I was going to make it a monthly thing, but a little longer means the feature gets the exposure they deserve. I'll play it by ear.-- Drekkin
Month-long rotations also mean that other articles do not get the exposure they deserve.-- Ramona
Granted, especially as the quality and quantity of articles increase. But that's the nature of these things. Have you got any other articles in mind? Feel free to recommend some in this space and I'll ensure they get a place in the queue.-- Drekkin
No point to it if the articles stay up for so long, any choice would be outdated by the time it would matter.-- Ramona
The point is a piece's staying power though. I'd hope that any article that made the feature was, by one definition, timeless, rather than temporary. Since the feature has in the past been updated anywhere from a month to six months and other material has still been in contention for the spot, there is reason to believe that it has not rendered it a pointless excercise. I'm open to setting it at a month, as has previously been the intent, but anything shorter is when I think we start to dull the point of a featured article. I've set up a thread to discuss this further on the forums, so we can keep this talk mainly for article recommendations. Some compromises I'm thinking of for increased exposure of other material is 1) increasing internal links and interweaving among articles, and 2) setting up a point-form "did you know?" sort of box on the main page to keep a rotation of other reading (though the 'random page' function does this). I'll talk about those more in the SS forums though. -- Drekkin

I nominate Deep Space by Rhiana as next article to be featured. A great example of how to blend SWG lore, game mechanics, and Star Wars lore. Ramona

Seconded. Well written and formatted, and linked up the whazoo. Great example. Drekkin

We're into 2010 now, and no offense to Celox, but I believe that it may be time to replace the Featured article. I'd recommend we use a city article, like River Haven or Fort Keen. -- Arev

Almost time, yes. I've got it slated for replacement on the 15th. Drekkin
